In a case that has deeply moved the community, two men have been handed life sentences for the senseless murder of a mother-of-two. Michelle Sadio, 44, was simply attending a wake at the River of Life Pentecostal Church in Willesden when a drive-by shooting turned a day of mourning into a scene of absolute terror.
On December 14, 2024, as family and friends gathered to pay their respects, a car approached the church and four shots were fired into the crowd. Michelle was caught in the crossfire and tragically died at the scene. Another person was left paralyzed from the waist down in the attack, which was reportedly intended to target a rapper who was also at the event.
The court heard how the shooting was a planned and "terrifying tragedy." Perry Allen-Thomas, 27, who was described as being involved in gang activities, was sentenced to a minimum of 38 years behind bars. His accomplice, 20-year-old Amir Salem, received a minimum term of 26 years for his role in the killing.
The emotional heart of the sentencing was the victim impact statement from Michelle’s widower, Jean-Marie Sadio. He described his wife as the "pillar" of their family, known for her big heart and her loud, infectious laugh. He shared that he feels like half of him is gone and that he is truly broken by the loss.
In an incredible display of grace, Jean-Marie addressed the killers directly in the dock. He told them that while they stand guilty, they also stand forgiven. He urged them to use their time in prison to change their lives, saying that if they succeed in doing so, they will have repaid their debt to society.
Michelle’s father also paid tribute to her, calling her a "brilliant mother" and an incredibly intelligent leader. While the sentences offer a sense of legal justice, the loss of a woman who was the light of her family's life remains a heavy burden for her loved ones and the wider community.
