The Janata Dal (United) national council on Sunday, June 21, 2026, unanimously endorsed Nitish Kumar's election as the party’s national president. Mr. Kumar, addressing party workers and leaders, expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, emphasizing that the JD(U) has carved a place in people's hearts by championing ‘development with justice’.
He proudly stated that this commitment has propelled the party’s primary membership to exceed 10 million. Reflecting on Bihar’s journey, Mr. Kumar asserted that the state, once mired in backwardness before 2005, has seen honest and dedicated development for all sections of society and regions since his government took office. He noted that these efforts have ensured the party continues to receive public support and blessings for two decades.
Mr. Kumar also highlighted the progress of public welfare schemes like ‘Saat Nischay-3’ under the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in Bihar, crediting constant support from the Central government. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the State and Centre would elevate Bihar to new developmental heights, establishing it as a leading developed state in India.
Sanjay Kumar Jha, JD(U) national working president, lauded Mr. Kumar as a ‘universally acknowledged’ leader. Jha praised Kumar’s tireless hard work, struggle, and dedication for giving the party a strong identity. He remarked that thanks to Nitish Kumar’s policies and visionary leadership, every resident of Bihar now presents their identity with pride. Jha underscored that the robust foundation of good governance, development, and social justice in Bihar is a direct outcome of Nitish Kumar’s leadership.
Intriguingly, Jha also mentioned that Nitish Kumar’s son, Nishant Kumar, is poised to play an important role in advancing the party's developmental vision in the future.
