Tensions in the Middle East surged into a seventh day as the US-Israeli campaign against Iran entered a new phase. In a post on Truth Social, President Donald Trump declared that Iran's unconditional surrender is the path to ending the war, signaling a hard line as Washington and its allies wage strikes against Iran's military infrastructure, leadership, and nuclear program. Centcom said more than 30 Iranian vessels have been destroyed since Saturday as part of Operation Epic Fury, while US defense officials warned of a dramatic surge in attacks to come, including more fighter squadrons and bomber pulses.
Iran retaliated with another wave of attacks across Israel and the Gulf. Israel said it had destroyed the underground bunker used by the late supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The clash has raised alarms about regional stability and sent oil markets into a tightening market narrative amid concerns of a broader spillover into global energy supplies.
Trump also used social media to push for leadership changes, saying after the war, the selection of a GREAT & ACCEPTABLE Leader(s) would follow and that allied partners would help rebuild Iran economically. Meanwhile, Britain’s stance on access to bases came into focus as retaliatory strikes from Iran drew attention, with political leaders signaling adjustments in defense posture amid the ongoing conflict.
Analysts warn that the escalation increases the risk of wider regional spillovers and could complicate diplomacy as the situation remains volatile and volatile forces threaten to reshape the regional balance.
