Delhi is buzzing with heightened security as the city grapples with multiple bomb threats just a day before India's 77th Independence Day celebrations. Key locations, including the Delhi High Court, Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport's Terminal 3, and several other sensitive government buildings, received these alarming threats on Friday.
The Delhi High Court, in particular, received an email detailing a "30 MB Blast" scheduled for 2:11 PM. While the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) Joint Secretary, Kunal Malhotra, indicated that the threats appear to be fake, authorities are taking no chances. "All precautions have been taken and necessary measures have been put in place," Malhotra stated.
Beyond the High Court and IGI Airport, similar bomb threat calls were reported at Jamnagar House, Jhandewalan Flatted Factory Complex, MB Saket Office/DM Office, and the SDM Office in Delhi Cantt. The Delhi Fire Service swiftly dispatched fire tenders to all these locations, ensuring a rapid response to the potential danger.
This wave of alerts comes as security across the national capital and other parts of the country is already at its peak in anticipation of Independence Day on August 15. Police personnel have been strategically deployed, and rigorous checking procedures are being carried out at all entry and exit points. Public places and areas expected to see large gatherings are under close surveillance to ensure the safety of citizens.
The heightened security is particularly crucial as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to address the nation from the historic Red Fort on Independence Day. These latest incidents follow a series of similar threats in recent weeks, including multiple Delhi schools and, notably, the Delhi Mayor's Office, which received its eighth bomb threat on August 3. Such repeated scares underscore the ongoing vigilance required by security agencies to maintain peace and order.
