PM Modi in Kolkata: Yoga for a Balanced Life & Global Peace on Yoga Day!
PM Modi champions yoga on International Yoga Day from Kolkata's Red Road, urging a balanced lifestyle and highlighting yoga's role in health, peace, and healthy ageing.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spearheaded the International Yoga Day celebrations from Kolkata's iconic Red Road, emphasizing the profound significance of yoga for personal well-being and global harmony. Addressing thousands of participants, PM Modi underscored that yoga is not merely an exercise but a pathway to a balanced life, crucial in today's fast-paced world.
Drawing inspiration from the Bhagavad Gita, the Prime Minister highlighted that a balanced lifestyle, encompassing proper work, nutrition, and sleep, is fundamental to overcoming life's challenges. He articulated that yoga serves as a guide in achieving this equilibrium, teaching the art of living in a balanced manner. "That balance is yoga's basic crucible, just as it is the crucible of our lives," Modi stated, adding that yoga helps individuals use their bodies correctly, making health a habit.
This year's International Day of Yoga theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," resonated deeply with the Prime Minister's message. Experts from AIIMS also support this, stating that regular yoga practice makes healthy ageing possible, a critical public health priority as the world's elderly population expands. PM Modi noted that June 21, the longest day of the year, is now globally recognized as a day of yoga, transforming it into the world's largest community celebration. He reiterated that yoga brings people together, promoting not just physical health but also mental well-being, emotional resilience, and active ageing.
