Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, reaffirming the e-commerce giant's strong commitment to India's burgeoning digital landscape. During their significant meeting, Jassy announced an additional investment of $13 billion aimed at expanding Amazon's artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure across India by 2030.
This substantial pledge comes within just six months of Amazon's earlier announcement of $35 billion in new investments for the country. The latest commitment brings Amazon's total planned investment in bolstering its AI and cloud capabilities in India to over $21 billion between 2026 and 2030. This makes it one of the largest global investments in these critical technology sectors within India.
Jassy emphasized that Amazon's India operations are on a robust growth trajectory, driven by strong customer demand, particularly in its e-commerce and Amazon Web Services (AWS) businesses. He highlighted the company's decade-long presence in India, serving customers, sellers, developers, start-ups, and enterprises, and noted the tremendous response received.
Amazon's strategic priorities in India, Jassy explained, are closely aligned with the nation's goals: democratizing access to AI, digitizing small businesses, fostering job creation, and enabling exports. The company projects that these expanded investments will contribute to supporting an impressive 3.8 million jobs across India by 2030. Beyond the meeting with PM Modi, Jassy also held discussions with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai, underscoring Amazon's broad engagement with Indian leadership. Amazonβs overall commitment to investing over $48 billion in India over the coming five years speaks volumes about its long-term vision for the country's economic and technological advancement.
