Hyderabad’s RGIA reels from IndiGo disruptions as 68 flights are cancelled, leaving travelers stranded and frustrated amid unclear timings and cascading delays.
Chaos continued at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport as IndiGo cancellations disrupted travel for the second day in a row. A total of 68 IndiGo flights were cancelled on the day, comprising 35 arrivals and 33 departures, marking a sharp increase from the previous day when 31 cancellations had already caused long queues and extended waiting times across terminals. Travelers reported a lack of reliable information about revised timings and struggled to find clear alternatives, with information screens frequently showing a flurry of IndiGo cancellations.
IndiGo attributed the disruption to a combination of unforeseen operational challenges, including minor technology glitches, winter-season schedule changes, adverse weather, increased congestion in the aviation system, and the impact of updated Flight Duty Time Limitations for crew. The airline said it was implementing calibrated adjustments to its schedules over a 48-hour period to contain the disruption and restore punctuality across its network.
Alongside the cancellations, passengers shared videos of tense scenes inside the airport as travelers vented frustration over delays and the perceived lack of timely information. The disruption came amid broader industry concerns, including a recent pilot shortage linked to the full rollout of stricter rest norms. IndiGo’s statement emphasized efforts to stabilise operations and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Officials and travelers alike are monitoring developments, hoping that these calibrations will help bring a quicker end to the disruption and reduce cascading delays at RGIA and beyond.
