Tragic Fire at Kenya’s Utumishi Girls Academy Leaves 16 Students Dead

A devastating fire at the Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil has left the nation in shock after 16 students were confirmed dead. The tragedy struck in the early hours of Thursday morning while students were asleep in their dormitory.

Education Minister Julius Ogamba visited the scene and confirmed the death toll, noting that dozens of other students were injured in the blaze. The fire reportedly broke out around 1:00 AM on the first floor of the building. Despite the efforts of response teams who managed to put out the flames by 3:00 AM, the damage was already done. Interior Minister Kipchumba Murkomen offered his condolences to the bereaved families and asked the public to remain patient and avoid speculation during this difficult time.
