Bihar's NDA win stirs expectations in West Bengal as the BJP eyes a 2026 assembly victory, while the TMC counters that Bengal charts its own path.
The NDA's victory in Bihar is energizing the West Bengal BJP, with leaders hailing the result as a sign of a broader political wave. Supporters gathered outside the West Bengal BJP state headquarters in Kolkata, distributing sweets as they framed the Bihar outcome as a roadmap for their 2026 Assembly targets. A senior leader spoke of Bihar’s result as a template for Bengal, insisting that selective revisions and a clean voter list will help the party secure a win in the next round of elections.
Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition, asserted that West Bengal will be held after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), and that with a clean voter list the BJP will prevail. He outlined a regional frame—Anga, Banga and Kalinga—claiming wins in Kalinga (Odisha) and Anga (Bihar) and predicting the next victory in Banga (Bengal).
Samik Bhattacharya, the state BJP president, echoed the optimism, saying the “massive wave of public support from Bihar will reach West Bengal as well.” He argued that Bengal voters want change, development and employment, and claimed the party can lead the state back to its preeminent position in India by 2026.
The Trinamool Congress struck a very different tune. TMC leaders insisted that Bengal is not Bihar and that Mamata Banerjee would return to power for a fourth time in 2026. A spokesperson, Kunal Ghosh, framed Bihar’s outcome as evidence that Congress’ opposition to BJP failed, underscoring that Bengal’s political dynamics remain distinct and unpredictable. In Bengal, the party argued, voters will weigh local issues, governance and development on their own terms, not as a mirror of Bihar’s results.
Analysts note that while Bihar’s results provide momentum for the BJP, Bengal’s electoral landscape in 2026 is shaped by a different set of concerns, alliances, and local leadership dynamics. The coming months will reveal whether the Bihar wave can translate into a Bengal verdict or if the state’s unique political currents will steer voters in a different direction.
