SJP Dazzles at NYC Ballet Gala in Custom Simone Rocha!
Sarah Jessica Parker, the visionary behind the NYC Ballet Fall Fashion Gala, steps out in a breathtaking Simone Rocha gown, uniting fashion and dance. See the magic!
Sarah Jessica Parker, a name synonymous with New York's cultural pulse, once again graced the New York City Ballet's annual Fall Fashion Gala, an event she famously conceived in 2012. As its founding chair for 14 years, Parker has masterfully woven together the worlds of high fashion and intricate choreography, creating a spectacular platform for artistic collaboration. This year's gala, held at the David H.
Koch Theater, unveiled three captivating new works, including a poignant pas de deux choreographed by NYCB resident Justin Peck.
For this special evening, Parker championed the work of designer Simone Rocha, who not only dressed her but also created the costumes for Peck's ballet.
Parker's personal choice reflects her commitment to spotlighting the designers involved.
Her philosophy is simple yet profound: wear something the designer is excited about, a piece that echoes the artistic dialogues between fashion and choreography.
Her verdict on her custom Simone Rocha gown? "It's Simone Rocha. Classic.
Magical."
The gown itself was a masterpiece, developed from an existing show piece, but re-imagined in a delicate, pale ballet pink. This hue was a subtle nod to pointe shoes, with hand-laced, unraveling ribbons flowing vertically down the sheer, embroidered floor-length dress, creating a truly balletic silhouette.
The attention to detail extended to her hair, styled by Serge Normant into an intricate, ribbon-woven braid, harmonizing with the dress's flowing lines. Complementing the ensemble were crystal-encrusted Roger Vivier shoes, a unique Simone Rocha and Benedetta Bruzziches handbag, and exquisite jewelry from Mikimoto and Astrea.
Makeup artist Mariel Barrera kept Parker's look soft and luminous, punctuated by a "siren smoky" eye, while Gina Eppolito completed the picture with blush ballerina pink nails.
Simone Rocha's designs for the dancers mirrored this exquisite balance. She aimed for costumes that felt "less obvious but still beautiful," incorporating her signature lace edging, corset-like lacing, flashes of tulle, and hand-painted roses that gracefully contoured the dancers' forms. Rocha focused on the dancers' experience, wanting her pieces to feel like a "second skin," allowing them to move as one with their art.
Parker eloquently described this fusion as "perfection," a "creative marriage made in heaven," highlighting Rocha's ability to capture the inherent tension between fragility and strength, a quality Parker sees as defining a ballet dancer.
Despite the glamorous outcome, Parker maintains that her day leading up to the gala is quite ordinary.
"It looks like a day as a parent, frankly," she shared, detailing a typical routine of managing kids, emails, and manuscripts. It's a testament to her grounded nature, proving that even a fashion icon preparing for one of New York's most anticipated cultural events starts her day like any other parent, until the moment the magic truly begins.
