He said the team needs to explore both technical tweaks and tactical changes, and stressed this will be a long-haul process rather than a quick fix as they gear up for the opening ODI in Ranchi.
Rahul indicated the team is open to seeking guidance from seasoned figures, including Sunil Gavaskar, to learn how to counter slow bowlers more effectively. He emphasized a collaborative approach and patience from fans, noting that adjustments will require time and collective effort from the squad and support staff.
He also recalled his own challenges against spin, pointing to a dismissal in Guwahati off off-spinner Simon Harmer as a case of execution errors rather than a fundamental misreading of the bowler. He said defending at the end of a day was the right option, but that it was not executed well enough on that occasion.
Rahul spoke about the atmosphere in Ranchi, a city with ties to MS Dhoni, and shared that the team has played under Dhoni and remains fans. If Dhoni is in attendance, Rahul suggested, the crowd and players alike could feel a heightened sense of excitement as the ODI series kicks off.
The Ranchi ODI looms large as India seek to rebound from the Test losses, with Rahul stepping into leadership duties in the interim and the squad focusing on immediate improvements in handling spin bowling.
