Manchester man in court over terror charges linked to synagogue attacker
A Manchester man faces charges of preparing terrorist acts and sharing terrorist material after allegedly driving a synagogue attacker to a defence site.
Mohammad Asim Bashir, 31, of Shaftsbury Road, Manchester, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with one offence of preparation of terrorist acts and three offences of sharing terrorist publications. Prosecutors told the court that Bashir and Jihad Al-Shamie stopped at the UK Defence Academy for 13 minutes during the trip. The Crown Prosecution Service alleges Bashir shared terrorist publications with Al-Shamie and others on WhatsApp between November and December 2024 with the intent to encourage acts of terrorism.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed Bashir is an associate of Jihad Al-Shamie.
The case is part of ongoing counter-terrorism investigations and highlights the continuing focus on links between individuals in the Manchester area and suspected attacks. Further details about the investigation, potential bail, or future court dates were not disclosed at this stage.
