Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas Specials Halted: Brendan O'Carroll Needs Jaw Surgery!
Brendan O'Carroll, the beloved star of Mrs Brown's Boys, needs immediate surgery for two jaw fractures, leading to the cancellation of Christmas specials and live shows. Fans send support as he aims for a 2027 return.
Fans of the hit sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys are expressing their well wishes after creator and star Brendan O'Carroll announced the cancellation of this year's Christmas and New Year's specials. The beloved 70-year-old comedian is set to undergo "immediate surgery" for two jaw fractures.
O'Carroll shared the disheartening news on social media, expressing his profound sorrow. "To say I am heartbroken is an absolute understatement," he wrote, extending a sincere apology to all fans eagerly awaiting the shows and for any disappointment caused. The fractures were discovered during a recent CT scan, necessitating urgent medical attention and several months of recovery.
In addition to the TV specials, the 'Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Panto' arena shows, scheduled for later this year, have also been postponed. O'Carroll remains optimistic, however, hoping to reschedule these live performances for 2027. He stated, "I now need to focus on getting myself back to full health, and I genuinely cannot wait to see you all again in 2027."
The show's creator reiterated his gratitude for the unwavering support from his fanbase. "Our fans mean the world to us, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support and trust me, Agnes Brown and her family will be back!" he assured.
Mrs Brown's Boys, known for its divisive yet popular humour, features O'Carroll playing the foul-mouthed Irish matriarch Agnes Brown, often alongside close friends and family members. Originating as radio plays and stage performances, the series made its television debut in 2011, commissioned by RTÉ and the BBC.
