Samastipur, Bihar, In a deeply disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves across Bihar, a minor girl was molested in the Samastipur district. This comes shortly after a similar harrowing incident in Jamui, raising serious concerns about safety and law enforcement in the state. Police have acted swiftly, arresting all four accused involved in the Samastipur case.
The incident, captured in a 59-second video circulating widely on social media, shows the minor girl desperately trying to escape her molesters, who forcibly pull, touch, and drag her on a road. The event reportedly took place near the Budhi Gandak River bypass embankment, within the jurisdiction of Karpurigram police station, in Jagatsinghpur village.
Samastipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Arvind Pratap issued a press statement on Thursday, September 24, confirming the incident. The police initiated action after the video came to their notice during social media monitoring on the evening of September 23.
Technical verification quickly established the incident's location.
Given the victim's apparent minor status and the sensitive nature of the case, authorities acted promptly, even without immediate identification of the victim.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The Samastipur police successfully identified and arrested all four accused within six hours of receiving the information.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas Kumar, Rahul Kumar, and Rambabu Sahni, all from Jagatsinghpur village, along with Avadhesh Paswan from Bijouliya village.
Further legal proceedings are currently underway.
Authorities have also appealed to the media and social media users to refrain from sharing any posts or content that might reveal the victim's identity or cause her further mental and social harm, emphasizing her minor status and vulnerability.
The incident has ignited a political firestorm. Opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Ejaz Ahmed stated that the Samastipur incident, following the one in Jamui, clearly indicates a paralysis of governance in Bihar.
He alleged that criminals operate with impunity due to the government's inaction.
Leader of Opposition in Bihar Assembly, Tejashwi Yadav, also strongly condemned the state government via social media, declaring that the public molestation proved a complete collapse of law and order in "BJP-ruled Bihar." He critically remarked on the government's potential downplaying of such incidents and suggested that action might be influenced by caste considerations, a severe indictment of the state's leadership.
