Hyderabad: In the latest grim episode, about 200 stray dogs were allegedly poisoned to death at Pathipaka village in Hanumakonda district, marking the second mass killing reported this month. The incident reportedly occurred a month earlier amid sarpanch elections and came to light on Jan 25 after locals tipped off activists about nearby buried carcasses. This follows an earlier incident on Jan 9 in Arepally village, where around 300 dogs were killed. Police say both cases fall under their jurisdiction, and investigators are expanding the first FIR to include details of the latest killings as part of a broader probe. The authorities plan to retrieve the dog carcasses and send them for post-mortem examinations on Tuesday to establish the exact cause of death and any common mechanism used.
