Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, recently took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that the PM desires the nation's youth to focus on "making reels and frying pakoras" rather than engaging in critical inquiry. This comment came as Mr. Gandhi lauded 18-year-old Sarthak Siddhant for his remarkable feat of exposing vulnerabilities within the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) On Screen Marking System (OSM).
Mr. Gandhi shared a video on social media platform X featuring his interaction with young Siddhant, emphasizing the student's courage and principles. He highlighted how Siddhant, along with ethical hacker Nisarga Adhikary, managed to uncover alleged irregularities and collusion between CBSE and edtech company COEMPT – an accomplishment Mr. Gandhi noted even major media houses and investigative journalists had missed. He praised Siddhant for being "faster and sharper" than the Central Bureau of Investigation, framing it as a significant victory for the youth and a defeat for the government.
In his post, Mr. Gandhi directly challenged the notion he attributed to PM Modi, stating, "Mr. Modi ji wants our youth to keep making reels and frying pakoras, without asking questions or opening their eyes." He passionately countered this, asserting that individuals like Siddhant represent "India’s true youth power," characterized by their inquisitiveness, awareness, and informed perspectives. Mr. Gandhi stressed that such empowered youth would ensure the country’s future remains on the right path.
The eight-minute video captures Mr. Gandhi's meeting with Siddhant and his family. The interaction begins with Mr. Gandhi asking Siddhant if he believes his actions were "a good thing" or "a bad thing," to which Siddhant, who had previously presented his findings to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, offered his confident response.
