After blistering heat, Delhi may get cooler days with partly cloudy skies and a chance of drizzle as IMD issues a yellow alert for mid-week showers.
Delhi sweltered under above-normal heat on Monday, with the maximum temperature hitting 42.3°C at Safdarjung and 43.8°C at Ridge, about 3.3°C and 4.3°C above normal respectively. Although no station crossed the heatwave threshold, the day wore a furnace-like feel as a dust storm swept the capital in the evening, bringing gusty winds and little rainfall.
IMD forecasters expect a marginal respite tomorrow, with partly cloudy skies and a chance of drizzle in isolated pockets. Winds remained strong, peaking at 61 km/h at Pragati Maidan and 54 km/h at Pusa as the city cooled late in the day. A yellow alert has been issued for Wednesday, indicating possible light rain and gusty winds up to 50 km/h, potentially bringing maximum temperatures below 40°C.
Forecasts suggest a cooling trend continuing through Thursday, with daytime temperatures likely hovering between 39°C and 41°C. Humidity may rise with more cloud cover, while the return of light rain could offer brief relief from the heat. Officials note the latest spell of warmth could ease in the days ahead, though residents are urged to stay hydrated and avoid peak sun hours.
Municipal teams prepared for possible wet weather and reduced air pollution from dust, even as authorities stressed that the risk of a heatwave remains low for now. The city had previously endured prolonged heat, and residents welcomed any relief as the season presses on.
Delhiites can watch for updates ahead of Tuesday and Wednesday as the sky alternates between sunshine, clouds, and the possibility of showers.
