Art Garfunkel Considers Leaving US Over Trump & Climate Change

Legendary singer Art Garfunkel has candidly shared his deep concerns about the current state of affairs in the United States, admitting he's seriously considering leaving the country. His decision stems from profound disillusionment with the administration of Donald Trump and the escalating threat of global warming.

Speaking in a recent interview, Garfunkel expressed his discomfort with America's current trajectory.

I don't like America's position at all. I'm not aboard, and I'm thinking of leaving the country, frankly,

he stated.

He highlighted the urgency of environmental issues, adding, "It's real that the planet is getting warmer, that the water's rising, that so many people are starving."

Beyond climate, Garfunkel also pointed to geopolitical actions, specifically questioning the US involvement in Venezuela. "When Donald Trump took over Venezuela, are those the new rules? Just take over a country and run it?

It's shocking, and you think: how on earth are we gonna change the presidency?" he pondered. His remarks come months after US forces captured Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, who now faces federal charges in the United States.

Despite his evident pessimism, the iconic musician did offer a sliver of hope, concluding, "Trump won't last forever. So we've got to hope." This sentiment of unease is not unique to Garfunkel; several other prominent figures have voiced similar frustrations and even taken action.

"Avatar" director James Cameron, for instance, previously expressed his "sickened" reaction to Trump's potential re-election, celebrating his imminent New Zealand citizenship. He remarked on a perceived departure from core American values:

America doesn't stand for anything if it doesn't stand for what it has historically stood for. It becomes a hollow idea, and I think they're hollowing it out as fast as they can for their own benefit.

Comedian and TV host Rosie O'Donnell also made headlines when she moved to Ireland following Trump's re-election. She explained her move by saying, "I miss many things about life there at home and I'm trying to find a home here in this beautiful country and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights there in America, that's when we will return."
