A scooter blast outside the BSF Punjab Frontier headquarters in Jalandhar prompts a high-level investigation as officials say initial signs point away from foul play.
In Jalandhar on Tuesday evening, a high-impact explosion ripped through a scooter parked outside the Border Security Force Punjab Frontier headquarters, injuring a man identified as Gurpreet Singh. The blast appeared to be aimed at the rider, though investigators are keeping an open mind.
Police cordoned off the area as forensic teams, a dog squad, and BSF personnel collected evidence. The incident occurred on a busy road that connects the city with the Amritsar–New Delhi national highway, leaving debris scattered and traffic signals damaged.
Police Commissionerate officials said the investigation is ongoing and, at this stage, there are no obvious signs of foul play. They have questioned the scooter owner and noted the vehicle’s service due. Investigators said they are checking whether a mechanical fault played a role and are reviewing CCTV footage and other leads.
Some early information suggests the scooter may have been tied to a food-delivery rider, although investigators caution this is preliminary and will be confirmed only after forensic analysis and full interviews.
