Newsom announced his claims in a video statement posted on X, stating, "One by one, anyone who has challenged Donald Trump has ended up on his hit list, and today I proudly join that list." He directly linked the alleged investigation to his political ambitions, adding, "He isn't coming after me because of mean tweets, but because I am considering running for President."
The California governor detailed the scope of the alleged federal scrutiny, indicating that agents have been examining him and his wife, and contacting friends and former employees. He further accused the Justice Department of "abusing the grand jury process" and "digging through years and years of random documents," suggesting a fishing expedition rather than a legitimate inquiry.
