Ignorance or Activism? Chandrasekhar Slams Stanford Walkout!

A recent event at Stanford University’s commencement ceremony has sparked a heated debate after a group of students staged a walkout during Google CEO Sundar Pichai’s address. The students, reportedly protesting in support of Palestine and against Google's alleged ties to Israel, chanted “Free, free Palestine” as they exited the venue.

This act of protest drew sharp criticism from BJP Kerala president Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Taking to social media on Monday, Chandrasekhar shared a video of the walkout, labeling the students' actions as an example of “extreme ignorance.” He argued that the students had squandered a golden opportunity to learn at a world-class university and to hear directly from an individual who has achieved remarkable success and built major enterprises like Pichai.

Chandrasekhar acknowledged that young people often possess a natural enthusiasm for questioning authority and fighting for causes. He noted that previous generations had also exhibited similar traits during their student years. However, he emphasized that standing up for a cause should not be conflated with “ignorance or foolish behaviour.” He passionately stated, “This is the latest example of the extreme ignorance that seems to have gripped some of our youth today. You are living in the age of Artificial Intelligence, not in the age of ignorance.” He further described the incident as a “deep idiocy that’s afflicting some of our youth.”

Pichai, a distinguished alumnus of Stanford University with a Master of Science in Materials Science and Engineering, had returned to his alma mater on Sunday to deliver the commencement address to the class of 2026. Reports indicated that over 20,000 people were in attendance at the ceremony before the disruption.
