Tarique Rahman Visits Father's Grave After 17-Year Return From London
BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman returns after years in London and visits Ziaur Rahman's grave in Dhaka, as security tightens around the site.
Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, touched down in Bangladesh on December 25, 2025 after living in London since 2008. He traveled to Dhaka by a red-and-green bulletproof bus to visit Zia Udyan, where his father, former president Ziaur Rahman, is buried. He paid floral tributes and offered dua for the soul of his father.
Rahman was accompanied by senior BNP leaders as he stood before the grave. Security forces, including the Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battalion, police and the army, barred media personnel and party activists from entering the grave area and its surroundings.
Meanwhile, BNP activists gathered outside the entrance and chanted slogans as the visit unfolded, underscoring the continuing symbolic weight of Ziaur Rahman in the party's narrative.
Taking note of the visit, party leaders highlighted Rahman's long absence from the country and the significance of his return in the BNP's ongoing political positioning. One line reportedly associated with his visit was a pledge to 'build a secure Bangladesh for all communities,' reflecting the party's public messaging as it navigates a charged political landscape.
