Congress MPs, led by party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, staged a powerful protest in the Parliament House complex on Monday (July 27, 2026). The demonstration focused on alleged 'police brutality' against student protesters who have been agitating over the widespread NEET paper leak issue, demanding immediate answers and apologies from Home Minister Amit Shah.
The protesting MPs, joined by Priyanka Gandhi, gathered in front of the steps of the Makar Dwar, carrying placards and a large banner. They raised strong slogans, seeking accountability from the Home Minister for what they described as excessive force used against students. The Congress-led opposition has vowed to maintain pressure on the government within Parliament, pushing for decisive action against those responsible for the assault on students, and insisting on apologies from both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
Adding to the pressure, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has penned a letter to Mr. Shah. In his correspondence, Mr. Gandhi sought accountability for the ‘barbaric assault’ on peacefully protesting students. He specifically questioned whether the Minister had approved the use of ‘lethal force,’ including pellet guns, against the young demonstrators.
Rahul Gandhi underscored the fundamental importance of peaceful protest in a democratic society, emphasizing that it is the government's duty to protect protesters and address their grievances through dialogue. He stated, "Such brutal violence destroys every norm, and has outraged the country. Youth and students, the future of our country, are demanding answers and accountability. Their voice will be heard," highlighting the gravity of the situation and the nationwide concern for student welfare.
