Reports show multiple hotspots recording high pollution levels, with residents noting lingering respiratory discomfort and visibility issues across the capital. The authorities have announced the lifting of Stage III restrictions, but vigilance remains as officials warn that conditions can deteriorate quickly with changing weather and emissions patterns.
In one particularly alarming development, Indirapuram, a locality near Delhi, reported an AQI as high as 587, underscoring just how localized pockets of pollution can become extreme even as overall city numbers fluctuate. Delhi’s overall AQI hovered around the 384 mark at the start of the day, still categorized as very poor, while other areas such as Anand Vihar reported readings around 408, signaling ongoing health risks for sensitive groups and people with existing conditions.
Former IPS officer Kiran Bedi has stepped forward to sound the alarm, stressing the health impacts and calling for stronger political leadership at the national level. She urged Prime Minister-level intervention to coordinate multi-state measures aimed at curbing emissions, improving enforcement, and aligning cross-border efforts to combat the pollution source more effectively. Health experts caution that prolonged exposure can aggravate respiratory and cardiovascular issues, particularly for children, the elderly, and outdoor workers.
