In Sukma district, a Maoist cadre carrying a ₹5 lakh bounty was killed in a gunfight with a team from the District Reserve Guard during a search operation launched on intelligence about Maoist presence. The confrontation unfolded in forested, hilly terrain, with intermittent firing continuing through the morning. The body of the deceased, identified as Moochaki Kailash, a platoon number 31 section commander and a resident of Poolanpad village, was recovered along with a weapon. Kailash was wanted in multiple cases, including civilian killings and IED-related conspiracies.
Authorities stressed that the crackdown is part of a broader push to curb Left Wing Extremism in Bastar, with security forces mounting intensified operations in the region. In parallel, senior officials have emphasized that the March 31 target to end the Maoist threat has almost been achieved in many areas, and remaining cadres are being urged to surrender and join mainstream life. The campaign continues as security forces maintain pressure to disrupt command structures and reduce violence across the district and surrounding belts, even as rehabilitation opportunities are highlighted for those who renounce violence.
Union leadership has repeatedly asserted a long-term objective of eradicating LWE, with continued security operations in Bastar and surrounding districts. While officials acknowledge progress, they also stress the need for vigilance to prevent any resurgence and to safeguard civilians living in affected pockets of the region.
