Karnataka Voter Row: FIRs & Form-7 Deletions Spark Congress-BJP War
Explosive allegations and FIRs rock Karnataka politics! Find out how Form-7 applications for voter deletion are fueling a heated face-off between Congress and BJP.
The political landscape in Karnataka is currently embroiled in a fiery controversy dubbed the 'Karnataka Voter Row,' centered on allegations of fraudulent deletions from electoral rolls. FIRs have been lodged amidst claims that numerous Form-7 applications, intended for the deletion of voters' names, were misused.
The core of the dispute involves accusations that genuine voters were falsely marked as having permanently shifted residence or being absent from their registered addresses. This has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process ahead of crucial elections. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has been vocal, directly accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a deliberate conspiracy to target specific voters.
He alleged that the BJP was behind the questionable Form-7 applications, aiming to manipulate the voter base.
In response, the BJP has vehemently denied these allegations. Leader of Opposition, R.
Ashok, countered by accusing the ruling Congress government of misusing police authority against BJP and JDS workers who had filed Form-7 applications. Ashok asserted that complaints regarding electoral rolls should fall under the jurisdiction of the Election Commission, not be handled through police action. Adding to the political friction, BJP State president B.Y.
Vijayendra weighed in, stating that the Congress government is using the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) controversy as a diversionary tactic.
He claimed this was an attempt to draw attention away from what he described as the Congress's failures in governance, further intensifying the political blame game in the state.
