A distress call at 1:42 p.m. summoned at least 10 fire tenders to the spot as thick smoke began to billow over the area. Witnesses watched as flames climbed from the ground floor showroom and spread upward, threatening other businesses in the same complex.
Firefighters faced a daunting scene, battling a blaze that intensified quickly and sent dense plumes into the sky. By afternoon, officials said the fire had been brought under control on the ground floor, but smoke continued to pour from the upper floors, complicating rescue efforts and visibility for crews. As of 3:30 p.m., there were no reported casualties, though searches for anyone trapped inside the building continued.
Locals from an adjacent G+4 commercial complex joined the effort, helping the responders by creating openings in the glass façade and passing small supplies. A bronto skylift was positioned outside, with two personnel perched on top, smashing the fourth and third floor windows to ventilate the structure and facilitate entry once the smoke thinned.
Traffic advisories were issued, with commuters urged to take the route from GPO Abids toward MJ Market to avoid delays as emergency crews worked. Police asked motorists to avoid the area until further notice.
