PM Modi to inaugurate Noida Jewar Airport as Phase I starts with 12 MPPA capacity, a greenfield cargo hub and net-zero design, reshaping Delhi-NCR aviation.
India's next big aviation milestone, the Noida International Airport near Jewar, is on track for inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Phase I development, a public-private partnership worth about Rs 11,200 crore, is designed to complement Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and ease congestion across the Delhi-NCR region.
When fully completed, the airport will handle up to 70 MPPA, though Phase I will start with about 12 MPPA and an initial forecast of around 4 MPPA in traffic. The project includes a 3,900-metre runway capable of handling wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER, along with modern navigation systems, including Instrument Landing System (ILS) and advanced airfield lighting.
A multi-modal cargo ecosystem is part of the plan, with an integrated cargo terminal, logistics zones, and a dedicated 40-acre MRO facility. The cargo facility is designed to handle over 2.5 lakh tonnes annually, with potential expansion to around 18 lakh tonnes. The airport also aims to be a net-zero emissions facility, incorporating energy-efficient systems and environmentally responsible practices.
Architectural design draws on Indian heritage, blending elements reminiscent of ghats and havelis to fuse cultural aesthetics with modern infrastructure. In its Phase I form, the project will help position Delhi-NCR among leading global aviation hubs and serve major UP cities such as Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura and Agra.
Authorities have announced traffic curbs and diversions around the inauguration day to manage crowds and security. Entry for two-wheelers and light motor vehicles will be through Kishorpur Gate with parking at P-04, while vehicles from Jewar town will use the same gate and park at P-12. Commercial vehicles along the Jewar-Tappal route will be diverted toward Tappal, and those from Khurja heading to Jewar will be stopped at Khurja and redirected.
Overall, the airport is expected to operate as an integrated system with IGI, gradually expanding capacity and connectivity and easing congestion at India’s busiest aviation corridors.
