The mountaineering world is in deep mourning following the tragic news of legendary climber Nirmal Purja, affectionately known as Nims Dai, and members of his expedition team perishing in a devastating avalanche on Broad Peak. The incident occurred on the treacherous slopes of the mountain, situated in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, claiming the lives of at least four individuals, with reports indicating a potential death toll of up to ten climbers.
Ground rescue teams faced immense challenges, battling severe weather conditions and the extreme altitude to reach the site. The Alpine Club of Pakistan has confirmed the immeasurable loss to the global mountaineering community. Purja was found at approximately 5,700 meters on Broad Peak, alongside three other bodies, whose identities are awaiting full confirmation.
