A 21-year-old in Lucknow allegedly shot his father during a dispute, then dismembered the body and disposed of parts while hiding the torso in a drum as investigators probe the case.
A 21-year-old man in Lucknow is in police custody after allegedly shooting his father dead in a fit of rage, and then dismembering the body to conceal the crime. The incident is reported to have occurred around 4:30 am on February 20, according to police statements. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Manvendra Singh, and the accused has been named Akshat Singh.
Following the murder, authorities say Akshat brought the body down from the third floor of the family residence and placed it in an empty room on the ground floor. He allegedly chopped off the body parts and disposed of them, with the remaining torso reportedly kept inside a drum. The scene prompted a forensic team to arrive as investigators work to recover evidence and establish a clear timeline of events. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as officers gather details for the case.
Police say the investigation began after a missing-person report was registered at the Ashiana police station, which led to the suspect’s interrogation and subsequent admission of the details of the crime. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Vikrant Vir stated that a case will be registered under the relevant sections as the inquiry continues.
Some media reports have linked the incident to a dispute over NEET exam pressures, suggesting a potential motive; however, investigators note that the focus remains on gathering evidence and determining the exact sequence of events. The home where the crime unfolded is described as a three-storey family residence in Lucknow’s Ashiana area, and authorities are continuing to collect evidence from the site.
