Amarnath Yatra Resumes Via Baltal After 6-Day Rain Halt! 🙏

The revered Amarnath Yatra has officially resumed from the Baltal axis in central Kashmir on Saturday, July 25, 2026, bringing relief to thousands of pilgrims. This comes after a six-day halt forced by inclement weather conditions across Jammu and Kashmir. Simultaneously, the pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple in Katra, Jammu division, has also restarted after a similar suspension.

Officials confirmed that a fresh batch of 6,269 pilgrims arrived at the Baltal base camp, transported in a convoy of 223 vehicles. Divisional Commissioner of Kashmir, Anshul Garg, stated that urgent repair and maintenance works are still required on the Pahalgam Axis of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra due to recent heavy rains. Therefore, for now, the Yatra will continue exclusively through the Baltal Axis, where comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth and safe journey for devotees.

The Amarnath Yatra traditionally offers two routes: the longer 32 km Pahalgam trek and the shorter 14 km Baltal route, which allows pilgrims to return on the same day after visiting the holy cave shrine. So far this year, nearly four lakh pilgrims have already paid their obeisance. The authorities are committed to ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of the Yatra, prioritizing safety above all.

However, the challenging weather has had tragic consequences elsewhere in the region. In a separate incident highlighting the fury of the incessant rainfall, a woman lost her life and two other family members were injured when their house collapsed in the Bhattian area of Thanamandi in Rajouri. This unfortunate event underscores the severe impact of the ongoing wet weather, which has also led to significant damage to civilian infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir.
