Modi's Bold Plan to Turn India into a Global Manufacturing Giant
Prime Minister Modi outlines a manufacturing-led growth path with reforms, export goals, and new talks with Canada to boost India's manufacturing prowess.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that manufacturing, logistics, MSMEs, and well-planned cities are the four interconnected pillars of India’s economy. In a post-Budget webinar on Sustaining and Strengthening Economic Growth, he said stronger manufacturing boosts exports, competitive MSMEs drive innovation, and efficient logistics cut costs, while smart urban planning attracts investment and talent. The Budget reinforces these foundations, but real change requires collaboration between industry, financial institutions, and states. He highlighted initiatives like rare earth corridors, container manufacturing, and the Biopharma Shakti Mission, urging greater investment in research, adoption of advanced technology, and adherence to global quality standards to position India as a resilient manufacturing hub.
Beyond the domestic focus, Modi announced ongoing talks with Canada, aiming to elevate bilateral trade toward significant growth. At a recent ceremony in New Delhi, the goal was set to reach USD 50 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, signaling a strategic push to deepen economic ties and widen market access.
At the India–Canada CEO Forum, Modi highlighted the country’s rapid growth as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, crediting strong domestic demand, a large population, and big-ticket investments. The reforms mentioned—policy simplification, production-linked incentives, logistics modernization, and tax and bankruptcy reforms—are all framed to strengthen the ease of doing business across sectors. Bilateral discussions with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also centered on a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, expected to boost trade, investment, and employment opportunities for both nations. These moves collectively reflect a broader strategy: couple domestic modernization with proactive global commerce to cement India as a leading manufacturing powerhouse.
