Manipur Tragedy: Toll Rises to 3 in Militant Attack Amid Blockade Halt
Fresh violence grips Manipur as a man succumbs to injuries, bringing the death toll to three after a militant attack. Former CM demands accountability amid escalating ethnic tensions. #ManipurViolence #NagaLivesMatter
Manipur is once again grappling with renewed ethnic violence as a 49-year-old man, Ashiho Sani, tragically succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, September 27, 2026. He was a victim of a brutal gun attack by suspected militants in the state's Senapati district just a day prior. This somber development brings the death toll from the incident to three.
Mr. Sani was among two individuals, including 33-year-old Adani Manio, who were injured when suspected militants opened fire on Saturday, September 26, 2026, killing two Naga civilians. Both injured men were rushed to a private hospital in Senapati, where Mr.
Sani tragically passed away around 3 a.m.
His body has been moved to the Senapati district hospital for a post-mortem examination. The recent spate of killings has drawn sharp condemnation and concern from various quarters. Former Chief Minister N.
Biren Singh took to social media platform X to express his dismay, stating that over 60 lives have been lost this year alone. He specifically highlighted the "grave concern" over the killings of Rocky from Chaowainamai village and Kumar from Laii Shirafii village, who were reportedly shot dead in their homes while asleep by armed militants.
Mr. Singh powerfully questioned the ongoing cycle of violence, asking,
How long are we going to keep counting bodies instead of holding those responsible accountable and bringing the deteriorating law and order situation under control?
His statement underscores the urgent need for action to restore peace and security in the region. Adding a layer of complexity to the already tense situation, these killings occurred barely an hour before the United Naga Council announced its decision to suspend a four-month-long economic blockade that had severely impacted national highways in the state.
This timing suggests a volatile undercurrent that continues to plague Manipur's peace efforts. This incident is not isolated. On the night of September 24, four Tangkhul Naga civilians were also tragically killed by suspected militants, reportedly from Myanmar, in Pilong village, Kamjong district, close to the international border.
Furthermore, September alone has witnessed at least 13 fatalities across various districts including Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Noney, and Kamjong, all stemming from alleged militant attacks. The continuous cycle of violence paints a grim picture for the region. #ManipurViolence #NagaCrisis #NorthEastIndia
