Delhi Cop Kills Wife Hours After Her Birthday Amid Dowry Allegations

Tragedy struck East Delhi's Kalyanpuri in the early hours of Monday when a Delhi Police constable allegedly shot his wife dead, just hours after she celebrated her birthday. The victim, identified as Priyanka Bhati, a dedicated teacher at Prudence School in Ashok Vihar, was found critically injured on the roadside after the altercation. Her husband, Manish Bhati, a constable with the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the East district, is currently on the run, and police are actively searching for him.

Priyanka's family has come forward with harrowing claims of relentless dowry harassment and abuse that plagued her marriage since 2023. According to her younger brother, Nitin, a constable with the Uttar Pradesh Police, Manish Bhati would frequently taunt Priyanka, comparing her dowry contribution to that of his sister-in-law, who allegedly brought ₹70 lakh while Priyanka's family could only manage ₹15 lakh. Nitin expressed their initial joy at Priyanka marrying a policeman, only to be met with unforeseen tragedy.

The family revealed that the harassment was not a recent development. Priyanka had returned to her parental home for almost nine months shortly after her marriage due to the persistent abuse and dowry demands. During this period, her in-laws reportedly demanded ₹25 lakh. An FIR was even lodged with the Delhi Police regarding dowry harassment and assault. However, Manish later apologized, and Priyanka, hoping for a better future, returned to her marital home. Unfortunately, the harassment and abuse allegedly continued.

CCTV footage reportedly captured the couple arguing moments before the fatal shooting. This horrific incident casts a grim light on the persistent issue of dowry-related violence in society. As the search for the accused constable continues, Priyanka's family and the public await justice for the young teacher whose life was tragically cut short.
