The trip had been postponed amid the escalation of Iran's war, with Washington and Beijing delaying the historically anticipated meeting. Beijing typically reveals Xi’s schedule only days in advance.
On the table in Beijing are potential goodwill agreements on agriculture and airplane parts, but both sides are likely to address deeper tensions, notably Taiwan, where Washington's arms sales have surged under Trump's term. The visit will be the first in-person talks since an October meeting in South Korea where the leaders reportedly agreed on a trade truce.
The two-day visit is described as blending pomp with practical diplomacy, aiming to move the relationship forward even as disagreements linger. The Chinese embassy said it had no information to offer on the visit, underscoring how schedules for Xi remain closely guarded.
