Arunachal CM condemns racist abuse of three women in Delhi; vows swift action
Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu condemns racial abuse of three Arunachal sisters in Delhi and says police will arrest suspects swiftly.
Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday condemned the racial abuse of three women from the state staying in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi. He said he spoke with the Delhi Police Commissioner to ensure swift and strict action and to track down the accused, who are currently absconding. He emphasized that safety, dignity and justice for the sisters remain the highest priority.
A case was registered at Malviya Nagar Police Station against two residents for allegedly racially abusing and criminally intimidating the three women tenants from the North East. The FIR cites sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to intentional insult, criminal intimidation, promoting enmity, and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention. Police say the accused are absconding and will be apprehended at the earliest.
In a post on the social network X, Khandu said the incident is shameful and utterly unacceptable in a diverse society. He said the commissioner of police is in touch with him and that the case will be dealt with under the law. The leadership conveyed their unwavering support to the three sisters and pledged ongoing protection.
The Delhi Police have said the FIR has been registered under BNS sections including 79, 351(2), 196 and 3(5). The investigation continues as authorities reinforce a message that such racial abuse will not be tolerated and that those responsible will face penalties. This incident has sparked calls across political and social circles for stronger safeguards against racial discrimination in the capital.
