Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrapped up a two-day visit to Malaysia with a flurry of engagements aimed at deepening defense, security, and technology cooperation. He and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held wide-ranging discussions that yielded several bilateral documents spanning security cooperation, UN peacekeeping, semiconductors, health and medicine, disaster management, fighting corruption, audio-visual co-production, vocational education, and social security for Indian workers. Modi described the relationship with Malaysia as a 'special relationship' and underscored a shared commitment to expanding ties across diverse sectors, including security, defence, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, and semiconductors.
Earlier in Kuala Lumpur, Modi received a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour at the Perdana Putra building in Putrajaya, underscoring the warmth and significance of the bilateral partnership. He also interacted with Malaysia’s Indian-origin ministers, Members of Parliament and Senators in Kuala Lumpur, appreciating their active role in strengthening bilateral ties. The prime minister paid tribute to INA veteran Jeyaraj Raja Rao, conveying gratitude from Indians for the INA’s courage and legacy.
The discussions touched on broader cooperation in UN peacekeeping, education and vocational training, and people-to-people links through cultural exchanges and enhanced health and disaster-response collaboration. Both leaders signaled a shared vision for a secure and prosperous Indo-Malaysian partnership, with concrete steps to advance AI, digital technologies, and defence partnerships in the coming months.
Modi highlighted the importance of strong, practical ties and pledged to translate talks into tangible outcomes, reinforcing the idea that strategic partnerships can flourish through sustained dialogue, mutual interests, and respect for cultural ties between the two nations.
