Apple launches iPhone 17e at $599 with 256GB storage

Apple today unveiled the iPhone 17e, its most affordable model yet, starting at $599 for a version with 256 gigabytes of storage. The launch is part of a broader push to defend market share in a fiercely competitive global smartphone market. The company notes that by offering more storage at the same price point, the 17e positions itself as a strong value option even as memory chip prices rise amid a global shortage.

At the heart of the new model is the latest-generation A19 chip, delivering boosted performance for everyday tasks and more demanding apps. The 17e also carries Apple’s new C1X cellular modem, which the company says can be up to twice as fast as the previous generation in the iPhone 16e, improving connectivity and data speeds. In addition, MagSafe wireless charging is included, continuing Apple’s emphasis on seamless pairing with accessories and easy charging. The device features a 48MP Fusion camera with 2x telephoto capabilities and Ceramic Shield protection for the display, offering a notable upgrade in imaging and durability.

In India, the iPhone 17e is priced at Rs 64,900, with pre-orders kicking off on March 4 and availability beginning March 11. The price point and added storage are highlighted as key draws for customers shopping for value in the budget-friendly segment. Analysts have described the move as effectively a price cut behind the scenes, since consumers previously paid more to access higher storage at launch.
