CRPF Demolishes Ramanna Memorial as Sukma Base Opens

In Gogunda village, Sukma district, the CRPF on Thursday demolished the memorial of Ravula Srinivas alias Ramanna, a central committee member of the Maoists, following the establishment of a forward operating base in Gogunda on November 20, 2025. The move underscores a sustained push by security forces to reclaim cut-off areas and restore normal life for local residents. The 74th Battalion led the joint operation, highlighting the security forces’ confidence in a long-awaited crackdown on insurgent influence in the region.

Ramanna, who died of a cardiac arrest in 2019, was a senior Maoist figure believed to have masterminded several attacks against security personnel, including the 2010 assault that left 76 CRPF jawans dead and the 2013 Jhiramghati attack that killed numerous people, including top state Congress leaders. The memorial’s demolition is framed by authorities as part of a broader strategy to end years of Naxal control in the area.

Officials say the effort goes beyond security, aiming to rehabilitate residents through infrastructure projects. Kiye Videkho, assistant commandant of the 74th Battalion, said the area had long been under Maoist influence and cut off from government services. With the new forward base, electricity and water supply are being prioritized, and a school building and a helipad are nearing completion. This, he noted, will help pave the way for a brighter future for the local generation.

On the political front, Home Minister Nityanand Rai has highlighted a substantial decline in Left Wing Extremism-related violence, stating that LWE deaths of civilians and security forces have fallen by about 88 percent since 2010. He also noted that around 100 people—including civilians and security personnel—died in 2025, reflecting ongoing but evolving challenges in the security landscape.
