China backs stronger India-Russia trilateral ties after Putin's India visit

Beijing welcomed the Russian president's visit to India and framed the China-Russia-India triangle as a pivotal pillar of the Global South, capable of advancing regional and global peace and stability. The message underscored that sound trilateral ties are aligned with the core interests of all three emerging economies and can contribute to prosperity beyond their borders.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun highlighted that the three countries are not only pursuing their own gains but are also driving a broader regional security and prosperity agenda. He said Beijing stands ready to work with Moscow and New Delhi to continue developing bilateral relations and to view the ties from a long-term strategic perspective, aiming for steady growth that benefits their peoples and promotes peace across Asia and beyond.
The remarks came as Putin’s India visit drew close attention in Beijing, where the intertwining of Moscow’s, Delhi’s and Beijing’s interests is frequently discussed in the context of the Global South and a shifting global order. Guo reiterated China’s willingness to promote sustained and stable development of trilateral relations, emphasizing that the partnership should be guided by long-term vision rather than short-term opportunism.
On the bilateral front, Guo touched on India-China relations, noting a path toward normalisation after the tensions around the Ladakh region. He framed the two neighbors as close friends of Moscow and stressed a long-term approach to managing their own ties, with a view to regional stability and shared progress.
Putin’s own remarks in a recent interview, in which he described India and China as close friends, were cited in Beijing to illustrate the broader trend of strengthening partnerships within the region. The Chinese stance suggests that trilateral cooperation could serve as a stabilizing force in Asia, balancing competing interests while promoting constructive dialogue and joint economic growth.
