Nitin Nabin on Monday took over as the BJP’s national working president, a post carved out in the party in 2019, in a ceremony at the party headquarters in New Delhi. He was warmly welcomed by senior leaders including party chief JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who congratulated him and spoke of his organisational strengths guiding the party’s public service and nation-building agenda. A five-time legislator from Bihar, Nabin was appointed to this pivotal role late Sunday as the party signalled an intent to bolster its national leadership cadre. He will spend the month getting acquainted with his responsibilities and other organisational duties before what is expected to be a formal elevation to BJP president after January 14, a date linked to Makar Sankranti and the end of the Khar Maas period. This elevation mirrors the BJP’s strategy of promoting seasoned state leaders to national slots to coordinate elections and alliance partnerships, with Nabin’s Bihar background seen as an asset for aligning the party’s grassroots reach with central policy priorities. Party leaders praised his experience and the promise of a new direction under Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasising that his skills could help navigate an ahead-of-schedule political calendar.
