Residents from Papapatti, Pagathevanpatti, and Peyampatti near Usilampatti staged a coordinated demonstration against Jana Nayagan, voicing objections to how their villages are portrayed in the Tamil-language action thriller. They hung black flags outside homes and gathered publicly to press their case, stating that certain scenes misrepresent their communities and distort events from a local by-election in Papapatti.
The groups presented three demands: first, a formal public apology from director H. Vinoth and from actor Vijay; second, government intervention to ensure that the scenes in question are removed or altered before the film hits theatres; third, a broader pledge from Tamil cinema to depict rural communities more responsibly.
Jana Nayagan, announced in September 2024 under the working title Thalapathy 69, marks Vijay's 69th lead role. The project has faced piracy crisis and remake accusations; its release was shifted from October 2025 to January 9, 2026 to align with the Pongal festival. Fans remain hopeful for a film that balances entertainment with accuracy.
The protest comes as Tamil cinema navigates the tension between popular star-powered releases and community rights over representation.
