Modi Says End Bengal's Jungle Raj, Unveils Growth Push in Singur

Singur, West Bengal — Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a pointed critique of the Trinamool Congress at a rally in Singur, insisting the state must end the 15-year 'mega-jungle raj' to restore law and order and boost investor confidence. Framing the upcoming assembly elections as a straight choice between 'jungle raj' and BJP's 'sushasan', Modi contended that Bengal has suffered from infiltration and governance failures that deter growth.
He asserted that infiltrators who settled with forged documents must be identified and sent back, accusing the state government of protecting them for vote-bank politics. Modi also charged Bengal with blocking central welfare schemes such as Ayushman Bharat, PM Matsya Sampada Yojana and PM Shree Schools, arguing that delays in implementation hurt ordinary citizens and potential investors.
On the development front, Modi highlighted a momentum shift aimed at attracting industry and ensuring security for investors. He referenced development projects worth over Rs 830 crore and the broader Amrit Bharat rail initiative, which includes the Jayrambati-Barogopinathpur-Maynapur rail line and a Maynapur-Jayrambati train service. The visit echoed the political narrative of Singur’s past as a flashpoint in land acquisition protests, yet Modi framed it as a proving ground for a new governance model that could deliver jobs and growth.
The prime minister emphasised that the Centre’s plans for border fencing along the Bangladesh frontier require state cooperation, arguing that land and security arrangements are essential to maintaining order and enabling investment. Modi invited voters to judge Bengal's trajectory by whether it moves toward safety, accountability, and tangible benefits for workers and industry alike, signaling a broader push to translate political rhetoric into concrete development outcomes.
