Does AI Make Our Communication Bland? Exploring the Truth
An English student argues that AI writing risks erasing personal voice, from jargon to imitation. Can technology preserve language or dilute identity?
AI Writing and the Loss of Personal Identity
Being an English literature student, I have been able to see quite easily how chatgpt and other AI answers have been programmed to use certain jargon which make their answers quite bland.
The generic nature of AI answers are drawn from their programming. They collect information from all around the internet and then word it as an imitation. They don't have the ability to create identity in the way they write unlike humans.
The beauty of human writing is the ability to create an identity in our words, our styles, our imperfections. AI takes away all of that presenting information in an efficient and eloquent manner that takes away any real identity behind it.
They don't like to use any idioms or slang that create relatability. The more people keep using it, the more generic everyone begins to sound and we all lose an identity.
Preserving Language Through Human Expression
AI can have positive impacts on language if we know how to use it. It can help preserve languages that are going extinct or revive them if they are given the right inputs.
We get enough obligatory formal talks when we're at our schools, colleges or our workplaces. If we continue to use AI for everything, then the whole internet is going to become a bland email.
The key is to use it as a tool. Use your own voice, your own culture and slang. Create meaning of your own, find your identity in the words. That's how we can preserve our language.
