In a Lok Bhavan ceremony, Governor AK Bhalla administered the oath to the new leadership, including two cabinet ministers: Konthoujam Govindas of BJP and Khuraijam Loken Singh of NPP.
The move marks a return to elected governance after N Biren Singh resigned amid criticism over the handling of violence that erupted in May 2023.
Khemchand Singh, a prominent Meitei figure, is seen as a leader who could help bridge communal fault lines and push forward a peace-oriented agenda amid ongoing unrest.
The governor’s approval and the formal oath underline the constitutional process as the NDA coalition begins to assemble a full cabinet and set policy goals for peace, governance, and reconciliation.
