The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) is facing significant delays in filling crucial nominated posts across the state. This exercise, which is aimed at appointing chairpersons and members to various corporations and boards, is being hampered by ongoing consultations and a reported lack of consensus among party leaders on several key appointments.
While the Congress leadership had initially indicated that appointments would be made in phases, sources within the party suggest that nearly half of the previous incumbents might not be reappointed. This has led to intensified lobbying from senior Congress leaders and former legislators, all vying for these influential positions.
Amidst this internal political maneuvering, some ministers have emphasized the urgent need to prioritize appointments to corporations dealing with agriculture and allied sectors. This push comes in response to the anticipated challenges posed by El Niño conditions, which are expected to impact the farm sector significantly. Swift appointments in these areas are seen as crucial to address potential agricultural issues effectively.
Adding another layer to the selection process, a senior leader has advocated for considering members of the party’s social media wing for district-level nominated posts. This suggestion is based on their demonstrated commitment to the Congress during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government’s tenure.
The urgency to finalize these appointments is underscored by the fact that the tenure of chairpersons for several State-level corporations concluded last month, leaving numerous key positions vacant. In an effort to streamline the process, TPCC president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud recently held consultations at Gandhi Bhavan with Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Rajya Sabha member Vem Narender Reddy. During these discussions, they focused on the appointments of Chairpersons and Directors of Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS), as well as nominations to constituency, district, and State-level bodies, and successfully finalized broad guidelines for the selection process.
