The Kannur Dental College in Anjarakandy has terminated the Head of the Department (HoD) of Dental Anatomy, M.K. Ram, who faced allegations connected to the death of first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery student R.L. Nithin Raj, from service. The decision was taken on Thursday after discussions with student union representatives and parents, and with Principal Vinod Moni.
The college said the action involves termination from service and would trigger dismissal proceedings under the institution’s rules. The move comes amid ongoing student protests and calls for accountability in the incident.
The protests had included class boycotts as students pressed for decisive action. With the HoD removed, students announced they would withdraw their agitation and attend classes from Monday.
The development is being watched by the campus community as parents and student representatives had pressed for accountability and a transparent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death.
