India’s BrahMos Goes Global: Vietnam Signs Deal, Indonesia Next!

India is making waves in the global defense market with its BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles. Recent reports from the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore have revealed that Vietnam has officially signed a deal for these advanced missiles, while a similar agreement with Indonesia is in its final stages. This marks a significant step in India's efforts to become a major defense exporter and a key security partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The deal with Vietnam is estimated to be worth around Rs 6,000 crore (approximately $629 million). This comprehensive package includes not just the missile systems but also training and logistical support. While the official public announcement might be pending, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed that the paperwork is essentially done. He emphasized that India views ASEAN nations as 'friendly foreign countries' with whom advanced defense technologies can be shared, highlighting a foundation of deep strategic trust.

Indonesia is following close behind, with its own BrahMos agreement nearing completion. This follows the path set by the Philippines, which was the first international buyer of the Indo-Russian co-developed system. The Philippines signed its contract back in 2022 and has already received its first batches of missiles in 2024 and 2025. This steady expansion of the BrahMos footprint suggests that the missile's reputation for speed and precision is resonating with regional powers looking to bolster their maritime defenses.

Beyond just selling hardware, India is positioning itself as a reliable partner for building resilient supply chains and securing maritime commons. The focus is on creating trusted defense partnerships in an era where strategic resilience is paramount.
