28 Maoists with ₹89 lakh bounty surrender in Narayanpur, Chhattisgarh

Twenty-eight Maoist cadres surrendered in Narayanpur district, carrying a combined bounty of ₹89 lakh on their heads, as part of the Poona Margem: From Rehabilitation to Reintegration initiative. The move marks a notable step in the ongoing peace process in Bastar, where security and development efforts are being coordinated to bring rebels back into the mainstream.

Nineteen of the 28 cadres are women, and three rifles were handed over along with other arms. The surrender underscores the concerted work of local communities, district administration, police and security forces to build trust and move away from violence.

In the Bastar Range, which includes Narayanpur and six other districts, this area remains among the most affected by left-wing extremism. In the last 50 days, more than 512 Maoist cadres laid down arms and started the process of reintegration.

The Poona Margem program is being built as a foundation for lasting peace, aiming to help these individuals rejoin society and contribute to local development, with rehabilitation as a pathway to reintegration and trust-building.

Across Chhattisgarh, the surrender trend has been significant, with reports of around 2,200 Maoists surrendering in roughly two years, signaling a shift in strategy that emphasizes rehabilitation alongside security.
