The latest Hunger Games trailer teases a high-stakes, grim chapter with Elle Fanning and Maya Hawke joining the cast. Lionsgate drops a visually striking peek into Panem's turmoil.
There is a brand-new trailer of the much-hyped next Hunger Games movie, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, and it makes it clear that viewers should expect a devastating (albeit brilliantly acted and visually spectacular) story. The trailer, which was posted to the official Lionsgate Instagram page, features some of the cast, with Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman, and Maya Hawke as Wiress in the video. The three are all taking up parts that had appeared in the original Hunger Games films.
The newest addition to the ever-expanding Hunger Games franchise is Sunrise on the Reaping. Following the first book bearing the same title, Hunger Games, in 2008, people became hooked to the tale of Panem, where children aged between 12 and 18 years are compelled to engage in fights to the death on live television as a method by the Capitol to maintain control over the districts. The dystopian nightmare was released in 2012.
The books and movies have thrived in the past almost 2 decades. The initial three-book series went on to produce four films, all of which did well. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a book by author Suzanne Collins, ensued this and was published in 2020 to the delight of franchise fans. In 2023, that movie was followed.
The book, published in 2025, Sunrise on the Reaping, will be released in theaters on November 20, 2026. The main character of this new story is Haymitch Abernathy, the mentor of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the lead characters of the first Hunger Games trilogy of books. He, like Katniss and Peeta, will be many years later, will be ‘playing’ in the games. This movie is going to be gutted like a fish as the books unveil--and as you would anticipate in this franchise--it is going to be done. Nonetheless, this fresh trailer renders it obvious that it will be another great addition to the popular franchise.
